A Leader Who Listens and Puts Texans First.
John Hash is running for state representative of district 50 to serve our community and put the focus back on what matters: the needs of Texans. That means strengthening our schools, making healthcare and housing affordable, and protecting our water and natural resources for future generations.

Why I'm Running
The state legislature has stalled. Texans deserve representatives who act in their best interests, not the interests of special interest groups or extreme policies that most of us don’t support. I've admired the way James Talarico has honorably served my district and hope to continue the legacy that he began in District 50.

I haven’t made a career out of politics. Before becoming a stay-at-home dad, I spent over a decade at The University of Texas at Austin working alongside geologists for an outreach program for underserved youth across the state. That experience gave me a clear view of the struggles Texan families face: struggling public schools, rising healthcare and housing costs, and a looming crisis poised to impact our water and natural resources.

I’m running to change that. I want to make sure our teachers and students have the resources they need to succeed, that every Texan has access to affordable healthcare and stable housing, and that we protect our water supply and wild spaces for future generations. My goal is simple: put Texans first, invest in what works, and create a state where families, communities, and the next generation can thrive.

Together, we can build a Texas that we are all proud to call home.

Meet John
My name is John Hash and I am running for Texas State Representative of District 50. I have lived in Austin for almost 15 years, with most of that time in the Wells Branch Neighborhood.

From a young age, I learned the value of civil service and stewardship, a lesson I carry with me and hope to pass on to future generations of Texans.
After graduating from The University of Texas at Austin, I spent years working in youth outreach, first at a public high school in San Antonio and then at The University of Texas at Austin. In both roles, I helped first-generation students navigate college and career paths.
More recently, I’ve taken on one of the most challenging and rewarding roles yet: stay-at-home parent to a spirited, funny daughter.
Key Issues
Take care of teachers, prioritize learning, and keep our kids safe.
With over 5 million students in our public schools, the quality of education directly affects our economy, workforce, and communities. On day one, I would file a bill to remove the school voucher system, keeping our tax dollars in public education—not in the pockets of the wealthy.

Learning can’t happen if students and teachers don’t feel safe. That’s why protecting our schools must go hand in hand with strengthening public education. We must invest in mental health counselors, social workers, and prevention programs that identify potential problems early and keep classrooms focused on learning.

By investing in higher teacher pay, modern classrooms, access to technology, and safer school environments, we ensure that every child can succeed. Strong, safe public schools attract businesses, reduce crime, and build opportunity from the ground up. When we prioritize education and school safety, we’re investing in the future of Texas.
Affordable healthcare, stable housing, and prevention that keeps families safe.
Every Texan deserves the stability that comes with affordable healthcare and a safe place to call home. Yet too many families struggle to find a doctor, afford prescriptions, or keep up with rising rents. Texas leads the nation in uninsured residents, housing costs in our major cities continue to push working families to the brink, and gun violence has touched too many Texan families.

On day one, I will work to close the coverage gap, expand access to community health centers, and support policies that increase affordable housing and prevent homelessness before it starts. That means investing in mental health and addiction services, expanding rental assistance, and promoting responsible gun ownership and safe storage to help reduce violence and keep neighborhoods safe.

When Texans are healthy, housed, and secure, families are stronger, communities are more resilient, and our state is better prepared to thrive.
Safeguard our natural resources & secure the water Texans need.
Protecting our water supply is a Texas-sized responsibility we all share. From the Gulf Coast to the Hill Country, clean water is the lifeblood of our communities, farms, ranches, and energy industries. Rapid growth, industrial expansion, and the planned construction of water-intensive data centers are putting unprecedented pressure on our rivers, lakes, and aquifers. Without action, families and businesses could face shortages, higher costs, and environmental degradation.

In office, I will champion sustainable water policies that balance development with conservation. This includes investing in water reuse and recycling, protecting critical habitats, and ensuring new industrial projects use water responsibly. By safeguarding our water and conserving Texas’ iconic landscapes, we secure the future of our communities, economy, and way of life.
